2020 Goals

Happy New Year Party People,

At the turn of a New Year, I usually never feel any different. It’s not like when the clock strikes midnight that some new wave of revelation and hopefulness swoops over my body. For some reason though 2020 felt different. I did feel hopeful. I had this gut instinct literally at the stroke of midnight that this might just be my year to shine. It was the weirdest thing ever.

So, just in case that is the truth of the matter, I am being very intentional this year. I have come up with three categories: Career-Driven, Personal and Financial. Within those three categories, I’ve established five goals that I want to achieve in 2020. Each goal is specific and quantifiable in an effort to really put all of my focus into checking every single item off my list by December 31, 2020 11:59PM.

I operate off of checklists, so this is the holy grail of checklists for myself this year and I am holding myself accountable. I hope if you have the same feeling I do about 2020 and you too want to be intentional about goal setting this year but don’t know where to start that this post acts as a thought starter for you. Let’s do the damn thing and crush our goals this year!

Career-Driven (This encompasses both my full-time job and my secondary “job” as a blogger):

  • Participate in 3 learning opportunities related to my full-time job
  • Take on at least 3 new clients at work
  • Attend one blogging conference
  • Post 3-4 times a week on my blog
  • Get to 10K followers on my Instagram account

Personal (This category encompasses personal goals and relationships):

  • Read one new book each quarter
  • Volunteer at least 2 times this year for different organizations
  • Participate in the “one in, one out” rule (Buy one new thing, one thing I already own has to go)
  • Start a podcast with my mom by June
  • Grow my relationship to its next chapter

Financial (This one is self-explanatory):

  • Save enough money to put a down payment on a house by 2021
  • Put 10% of my paycheck in my savings account
  • Save money by only eating out 2-3 times a week (I usually eat out way more so this will probably be my hardest one lol)
  • Be mindful of spending in order to take at least 5 trips this year
  • Apply for and start using a credit card (For the credit part but also points for travel)

3 Tips For Setting Your Own Goals:

  • Categorize your goals to help compartmentalize your mind
  • Create S.M.A.R.T goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Based)
  • Find your “Why” in each goal you set

Sincerely,

Happy November!

I cannot believe we only have two months of this year left…Where did 2019 go?!

This weekend, I am staying in the city watching a co-workers house and kitty while she’s out of town. I barely ever get to stay downtown, so I plan on fully taking advantage of this situation. I have dinner plans tonight with a couple friends at a place I’ve never been to before and then tomorrow I am participating in the Cliquish Faces of Content Tour and may stop by the new Uncommon James location in the West Loop. Who knows where else the weekend might take me, but if you follow me on Instagram, you can follow along on my adventures.

If you’re not up to speed on your current events this week, here are some great articles to read this weekend. My Wish List this week is entirely made up of new jeans because I am in serious need of a Fall jean haul. Hope you have a great weekend!

Dear Dreamer and Pop Culture Admirer,

What is your dream job? When I think of my dream job, a specific person comes to mind. That usually happens right? You often have said dream job because you’ve idolized someone currently holding that role and wishing for that to be your reality. My person is Giuliana Rancic.

Full-time entrepreneur and the OG E News correspondent. I have admired her for as long as I can remember. I used to stay up way past my bedtime every night to watch the E News second airing before hitting the hay. I love that her every day is encapsulated with fashion, pop culture and celebrity news, all topics that I am truly passionate about. She works for one of the most prestigious networks, which has provided and allowed her to create a platform that she gets to utilize daily to speak to the masses. How cool is that.

As someone who’s always loved those things, loves the world of publicity and isn’t afraid of public speaking, I’ve dreamt of one day being able to stand next to her and work my tail off. I tell people today, “someday, I will be the next Giuliana Rancic.” That’s how much I love her.

What made me think of this topic was that the Emmy’s were on TV last night. I sat on my couch and watched celebrities arrive on the purple carpet via the E News coverage and was glued to Giuliana interviewing some of my favorites. The preparation, the glam and research it took her to stand there and talk to these stars even for such a short amount of time amazes me.

So, in light of the inspiration I felt last night watching my idol yet again kill it on an award show carpet, I thought I’d take a stab at reporting out on some of my favorite looks of the night. All listed below! I’m curious to know, did you watch the Emmy’s last night and if so, who were some of your favorite looks?

From top left across and then down: Daniel Levy // Emilia Clarke in Valentino // James Van Der Beek // Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Oscar de la Renta // Kit Harington // Kristin Cavallari in Nicole + Felicia Couture // Mandy Moore in Brandon Maxwell // Naomi Watts in Dior // Patricia Clarkson in Christian Siriano // Phoebe Walker Bridge in Monique Lhuillier // Rachel Brosnahan in Elie Saab // RuPaul // Sophie Turner in Louis Vuitton // Taraji P. Henson in Vera Wang // Zendaya in Vera Wang

Some of my other favorite moments from the Emmy’s include: Alex Borstein sharing a family story and encouraging women to step out of line, Michelle Williams talking about equal pay, the compilation montage of series that departed this year (I was in tears), RuPaul’s Drag Race winning an Emmy and Bob Newhart sharp as ever at 90 years old in a bit with Ben Stiller when handing out the first award of the night. These moments and more can be seen at eonline.com (my fave site ever!).

10 Blazers Under $50

Hello There,

Anyone else feel like a total boss when they throw on a blazer? Working at any job in any capacity, I truly think that blazers are the quintessential staple piece that every modern woman needs to have in her closet. A blazer is the perfect article of clothing that can transition from day to night, from the office to happy hour!

How to style a blazer: This season I am very into head to toe print looks. Pair a plaid blazer with a shift dress downing the same pattern. Blazers are super trendy to wear with turtlenecks in the cooler temperatures. I also think a blazer looks so sexy draped over your shoulders with a lace camisole or bodysuit underneath. Regardless of how you wish to wear a blazer, the best part is that there are so many different styles, shapes, silhouettes and patterns to choose from. I literally just counted, and I currently have 10 different blazers hanging in my closet. I just can’t get enough. The whole menswear as womenswear is totally my jam, and blazers are best in show when achieving this look.

If you want to obtain a good one that lasts you many wears, I suggest taking the time you need to invest in a good piece. Some of my favorite stores to get quality blazers from include H&M, Zara, Ann Taylor, J. Crew…the list goes on and on. I know that you may not be looking to drop hundreds on a blazer quite yet, so I’ve rounded up 10 chic and stylish blazers from all over the internet that you can purchase for under $50.

Linking all of the above blazers below, starting from the top left going across and then down. If you haven’t yet, check out my latest Instagram post and let me know what you think!

Target Tan Plaid Blazer $35 // DR2 at Nordstrom Rack Textured Knit Burnt Orange Blazer $35 // H&M Fitted Blazer (comes in 6 colors) $35 // Rachel Roy White Drawstring Blazer $32 // Zara Deep Turquoise Blazer $50 // Veronica Beard via Rent the Runway Blue Plaid Blazer (most similar to mine above) $39 // Old Navy One Button Black Boyfriend Blazer $35 // H&M Double Breasted Dark Beige Blazer $50 // H&M Double Breasted Herringbone Black Blazer $35 // Old Navy Classic Gray Blazer $45

Happy Friday Loves,

We made it to the weekend (almost)! I have to admit, this week was rough. I was up until at least 1AM every night for no apparent reason other than pure insomnia. Makes waking up in the morning for work that much harder and lots of coffee was needed. I am glad to say I survived though, silver lining! Also, having really great dinners after work always helps me get through a tougher week. I tried a new Korean BBQ place last night and it was SO FUN! If you’ve never been to a Korean BBQ restaurant before, you need to go. It’s such a unique experience. Anyways, I’m done rambling, here are some of the best things I found on the internet this week. This week’s Wish List is also on fuego because New York Fashion Week gave me all the inspiration. Hope you enjoy!
