Last night, I attended the 25th Anniversary Silver Jubilee Gala at the Shedd Aquarium! Every year, Shedd holds a fundraising gala in an effort to raise awareness and encourage support for their outstanding and comprehensive conservation efforts around the globe. Shedd is one of my clients at work, so this was actually my second year attending this event. It is a highly coveted invite in our office, so I was super excited and honored to be able to go for a second year. Reflections was the theme for the night. As the Shedd anticipates their future of 100 years, they encouraged participants to reflect on what their role is in helping spark curiosity, compassion and conservation for the aquatic animal world. I absolutely have the biggest admiration for animals, maybe more than people most times, so this cause is very near and dear to my heart. It truly makes you sit back and think about what you are giving back and contributing that makes our world a better place for all of its inhabitants.
The evening was so beautiful as it always is. We started with a cocktail hour where we sipped champagne and ate hors d’oeuvre outside on the terrace, which showcases what I think to be the most spectacular view in the entire city. Then we enjoyed an aquatic presentation and got to watch an incredible and inspiring paddle race. During the paddle race alone, Shedd was able to raise just under $400,000. I mean it was just amazing to see how many people are so passionate about supporting Shedd and their mission. After the paddle races, our group was seated for dinner and I love how they arrange the tables because each one is situated right in the heart of the historic galleries. You are fully immersed in the main halls surrounded by fishes from waters all over the world. The night ended with dancing and an impeccable dessert spread. This event has quickly become one of my favorites of the year. Not only do you get to support an organization that you truly love, but also get to be dressed to the nines while doing it.
Speaking of, can we have a moment for the dress I wore last night!! This black, peplum Badgley Mischka was an absolute DREAM dress. I put it on and felt like a total boss. It fit and hugged my body in all of the right places and the style was so elegant and chic, I decided to wear minimalistic accessories to really showcase its simplistic beauty. You may be asking yourself, “how on Earth is she wearing a Badgley Mischka” well I am a Rent the Runway Unlimited member and get to wear dresses just like this all the time if I wanted to. I swear by Rent the Runway so much so I am dedicating an entire post to how much I love it. Stay tuned for that!
