Met Gala 2019 Recap

Hi there,

Anyone who knows me knows that I thoroughly look forward to two events every year: the Victoria Secret Fashion Show and the Met Gala. Let me tell you, I am still reeling from last night!!!! If pop culture is not your jam, then you might want to keep scrolling because last night was the Met Gala pink carpet and I just have to share some thoughts. Every year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City holds a fundraising gala that marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. It is the one night that all of the A-list celebs come out and celebrate the new exhibition dressed to the nines emulating that year’s theme. This year, the new exhibition opening and the theme for the night was “Camp: Notes on Fashion”. And no, not camp like pitching tents, camouflage and roasting marshmallows around a bonfire. But more camp, like kitschy, over the top, dramatic, silly and sublime. It’s a love for the unnatural, exaggeration and unexpectedly glamorous. Basically, the more extra the better.

Lady Gaga and Harry Styles were the co-chairs for the evening, so you knew that it was going to be epic. Gaga did not disappoint, especially when she did not one, not two, not three, but FOUR pink carpet entrances. Each one was better than the prior. Kendall and Kylie showed up together in one of the best color combinations ever: purple (Kylie) and orange (Kendall). They usually play it really safe when it comes to the Met carpet, so I was super impressed when they arrived in these totally over the top Versace gowns. Darren Criss won best dressed guy in my book; his look was to die for. Kris Jenner downed a platinum blonde wig. Emily Ratajkowski was barely wearing anything. Hailey Bieber showed off her Alexander Wang thong. Madelaine Petsch looked like a real-life fairy. Billy Porter had the best entrance ever. I mean the whole night was filled with such incredible moments, if you haven’t seen yet, navigate to Google for a few breath-taking photos both good and bad.

As celebrities arrived and strolled down the pink carpet, similar plays on the theme were evident. Pleather, hues of pink, feathers and sleek hair styles were prominent. I wouldn’t be surprised if these trends start lining the racks at our mass-produced clothing conglomerates and thus the streets of any metropolitan city. When I was watching it all play out on E News last night, it was as if Willy Wonka, the Jetsons, Goosebumps novel covers and Mrs. Robinson had a baby. And I was LIVING for it all. I honestly think this was one of the best carpets yet (Bravo Anna)! I pulled together some of my favorite looks from the night below. Who were some of your favorites?
